2023 GOERT Conference: Restoring Ecosystems

Garry oak ecosystems are home to the highest biodiversity of any terrestrial ecosystem in British Columbia and are the most species at risk. In Canada, they are confined to southeastern Vancouver Island, the nearby Gulf Islands, and two isolated spots in the Fraser River Valley. All of their component ecological communities are globally imperilled.

The GOERT Conference brings together researchers, practitioners, governments, community, and students who are actively involved or interested in restoring Garry Oak ecosystems and ensuring the survival of this important part of the planet’s natural heritage.

No one will be turned away, please contact us (info@goert.ca) if the cost is a barrier. Admission is free for Indigenous students but contact us (info@goert.ca) to register so that we can keep track of numbers.

The price of admission includes a catered lunch. Participation online is also offered to those who can not attend the conference in person.

ADDITIONAL FIELD TRIPS: As part of the event, field trips to active restoration projects in the Victoria area are being offered the following day (Sunday, October 15). This is an opportunity to see first-hand what people are doing and ask questions. Due to limited space on the field trips, participants must sign up on a first-come, first-served basis.
