Restoration Tour of Uplands Park
Sunday, April 28, 2024
1pm to 4pm
at Uplands Park, Victoria
Uplands Park has one of the highest concentrations of rare plant species in the province and some of the best Garry oak meadows and woodlands in the capital region.
The first restoration work ever conducted was started by Girl Guides who began removing Scotch Broom in the 1990s. Restoration has expanded greatly since that time and is now guided by an 8-year management plan and involves the participation of community, the municipality and the provincial and federal governments.
Wylie Thomas and Matt Fairbarns will lead the tour sharing information on the federally funded restoration project that has been underway since 2006. The wildflower meadows promise to put on a colourful display that will not disappoint. (A wait list will be maintained and if there is enough interest, a second trip will be planned in the AM.)
Contact Wylie Thomas to register. Limited to 40 participants. Fee is by donation, with a suggested donation of $10 per person by sending an Interac e-transfer to donate@goert.ca.
